John Mason has an M.A. in Modern & Medieval Languages from Cambridge University and a degree from Århus University. Of Danish/English parentage, he lived in UK for 20 years before moving to Denmark in 1994. He taught at the University of Southern Denmark (1998-2010) and at The Independent Academy for Free School Teaching (2010-2018). He is widely recognised for his translations of Danish songs, his academic translation and editing, and his translation of contemporary literary novels. He has published two volumes of poetry, most recently Building in air (2020), and was selected for the Oxford Anthology 2004. His translation of Stig Dalager's Journey in blue was nominated for the Impac Prize in 2008. He has also published academic articles.
